World Book Day - a mothers view!

This morning on the school run something felt… unusual.

Within five minutes I spotted: two Jesuses, Zeus, Cruella de Vil, several Harry Potters, the Lorax, Spiderman, a couple of hedgehogs, a hobbit-looking character, Matildas, a mermaid, Pippi Longstocking and about five Elsas.

Which can only mean one thing - World Book Day!

And if you stood anywhere near a primary school this morning, you could instantly see the full spectrum of parenting. The beautifully planned costumes ordered weeks in advance… And the heroic last-night creations assembled from a bin bag, a towel, some cardboard and a very optimistic amount of sellotape.

To the mums who made those ones - I see you.

Because chances are you weren’t just building a costume at 9:30pm.

You were also finishing a presentation. Preparing for a big meeting. Thinking about that promotion you’re working towards. Running a business. Building a product. Leading a team. Managing a multinational company.

Or managing your boss’s attitude before your second coffee.

And somewhere between all of that, you still remembered that tomorrow your child needed to arrive at school dressed as a fictional character. That’s

not small.

It’s the quiet, invisible logistics of working motherhood that rarely makes it onto CVs or LinkedIn profiles. So if your child walked into school this morning wearing something held together by determination and stationery supplies…

Well done. You got them there.

And honestly, that might be the most impressive leadership skill of all. 💛
